Linux in ARM926EJ-S 248Mhz

Hi ,

It is good that this forum was created. So I want to start this thread because I see that nobody did it.

There is some infomation about how to put linux in another ARM926 machine with the VT8500 chip in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] .

In addition, there is one distribution made for this VT8500 netbook in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] which seems to be usable, but as far as I know, it does not run with ou machine due to the difference between processors.

I don't know how to boot from SD card in this moment, but it would be a good start for us. The password of the BIOS is "ztk".

I don't have more information right now but it would be good if you add more and maybe in the future we can enjoy Linux running under this netbook.

regarding the problem how to boot from SD card, the tool "HaRET" might be useful. HaRET is a little CE program that allows to boot linux without having to flash it to the flash memory first. I use HaRET to boot Android linux on my mobile phone (HTC Wizard), I also tried the same on my netbook. HaRET runs OK, but my Android distro didnt work on the netbook, of course.

I've never used Haret but it sounds interesting. Is it easy to use? If it is not too difficult maybe you can post a mini-howto or something similar with some example files(that you already have with android) and so we'll have a first aproach?

Hi there, concerning HaRET, I have no knowledge about the program greater than whats published on the HaRET homepage. My Android installation came "as is", with nothing to configure for me.....sorry.

I am desperately trying to boot linux on Anyka 7802 based netbook. No progress so far...

I have tried Haret with various setting based on BSP for WinCE. All I get is whole LCD screen flashing with colors: red, blue, black etc. From my experience with running linux on arm (PXA2xx to be specific) Haret uses these colors as a signalization of current status, however on my old pda it only flashes lines (as described here haret web page) not the whole screen. For sure haret can't detect actual framebuffer address (says so in log file). FB adress seems to be read only in Haret console and 0x0000000 is definitely wrong.

When searching for current MTYPE and platform settings I found this:

Seems like somebody is doing exactly what we are doing - adding MTYPE to upstream kernel must mean he (or company he works for) managed to boot these MTYPEs, otherwise why would he supply a patch? I have send an email to this guy already, maybe he could make these patches public.

no input is accepted, maybe because of sharing the same UART0 with touchpad. No change with disconnected touchpad and keyboard.
UART4 is unconnected on my board.

Which kind of Kernel-Image are you trying to start? have it an XIP config? which command for HaRET?


The Burning tool from Anyka, have some addr infomations:

I actually managed to get reply from that bloke from Shenzhen. He sent me kernel patches for AK880x which seems to be pretty similar to our's AK780x (880x is probably better,faster ... and has a DSP for smooth h264 encoding). Right now I am merging these patches to current kernel tree. Patches are only very basic (only serial console support, etc.) and don't compile smoothly yet. I am very busy this week but I will try to set up a git repo until the end of this week with all the patches.

For some reason (don't ask me why) these patches are based on Samsung s3c2410 kernel code. So maybe and again maybe internal structure of AK780x/AK880x is similar to this well documented SoC. Except s3c2410 is ARM920T. This needs to be checked before jumping to wrong conclusions...

I guess Haret needs to be patched for different framebuffer address mapping. Haret is a great tool but I never worked for my old Asus PDA A716 (based on Intel PXA255) although for this particular pda there is a custom version or Haret which works pretty good. Haret sources (especially arm assembly language parts) are great source of inspiration though.

Current kernels have support for XIP booting so hopefully native bootloader (u-boot preferably) can be used instead of eboot.

Does anyone know something more about mysterious USB boot button (button is not physically on my board, just pads for it ...) ? It is located next to Reset button.

is there any public location for this patches? Or can you sent me this patches?

producer.nb0: this bin would be downloaded to netbook in factory producing, then run this bin, pc can download nboot.bin, eboot.nb0, xip.nb0 to the netbook.

DDR:also support 64MB DDR and 128MB DDR, you can buy one 128M micron DDR youself, and then find a package for 128M. I guess 128M micron DDR is too expensive.

Can you please dig up some info about USB_boot via gdpio[2]? I am working on eboot bootloader and this method would be nice for debugging. I managed to execute some assembler code via haret, booting linux is nowhere near...

UART0 console seems to work well after detaching keyboard and touchpad. Are there any known commands for Aspen2USB loader (apart from obvious load command) ?

Hello folk, I am a newbie on this forum and I'm afraid I can't offer any technical help. However, have you seen this thread on the Ubuntu forum? [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] There are 64 pages of info on trying to get Linux on this netbook and I think they have had some success.

I am still at the stage where I can't keep shortcuts on my dektop due to the lack of suspend feature and losing data on reboot. I have seen a way to overcome this on the HPC Factor forum [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] but my netbook, a Firstview 602 (I think) with a Wince 5.0 266MHz ARM 926EJ-S processor, 128 MB RAM and 2 Gig Flash disk does not have the files that they have, eg Nand Flash/windows.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

This way to keep shortcuts on desktop works fine I did it. In my device the name of flash drive was "Flash2" instead of "NandFlash" and the folders must be created by you in this drive or copied there from \windows. I also moved the Favorites and some others.

I am very interested on booting Linux to my AK7802 device, it is one with a touch screen.

Hi Dick,keeping shortcuts on desktop is easy.
just use any regeditor to change your desktop path to flash.
program files,my documents,all the same.

Its not Anyka, its not the same netbook.

I am sorry, but I see some files and people trying, but has anyone actually gotten linux running on one of these things yet?
