This is cpu documentation not bios.

nisma

Yes, i know that this is cpu doc, i want it because i want to know the possible supplemental I/O and if it´s
possible to get one usb working as client where the other tree are working as host. Only the cpu manual can
clearify this. Further i want to know if rs232 is present, what pin, the sharing issues with the touchpad for
porting linux, checking the kernel log and other todo questions.

I have the datasheet of the VT8505 and WV8505. Having the datasheet of the AK7805
could serve in order to adapt linux. Or i´m wait for the access rights
or i resell the netbook and buy one with a VT8505.
Tree small questions:
Is there one RS232 free or are the pins used for other purposes. I have the schematic, so if
you tell me the pins, i could check it.
Its possible to boot from the SD-Card. Booting from usb works.
What speed is the internal USB port connected to the Wifi ? Usb 2.0 or Usb 1.2 ?

lliont

I think the knight concept sucks!
Vote negative for this post and you'll become a knight
and be able to download the pdf tonight.
Goodnight

nisma

The Rs232 is accessible but it´s more pratical to use the touchpad cable for
rs232 on linux. The internal ports are 1.2 usb including the Wifi
adapter. The chipset is Full Usb capable (12Mbit) but actually the driver limit it
to 1.2 Mbit as i have investigated.
Running it with a external usb wifi adapter (i have one laying around)
on the back usb port i was able to run linux without using the LCD display running
the terminal on a remote X server trought the network connection.

I agree, 'AK7802 processor specification Open !!!!!!! ' ...but not really, unless your one of the chosen few. This whole knights thing is begining to get on my tits.

Stan

Khephren, I have to agree with you.

This forum is based on an eleitist principle where certain people have more rights than us mere peasants . It’s just a club for arrogant individuals run by someone who’s up himself and is really just a clown.

I’m going to throw my Anyka fake netbook in the bin, it’s utterly under specified and really quite useless.

This forum could have helped to make it wothwhile, but it chose to do otherwise. Your mistake.

I’m off to one of the ARM/ WinCE sites that actually give a damn.

In the past (until v4.01) we have done this for free, but in the meantime there exist so many new devices that the effort is very high.
Therefore we have decided to create new adaptions for a small fee of EUR 15 payable via PayPal.

Please send your GAPI adaption request to Info AT WinCESoft.de to get more informations.

They can't do it without information, as they sure as hell aren't going to go out and spend €60-70 on one of these netbooks to fulfill our €15 request. They need technical data, which may be here, And is locked for no apparent reason.

I would like to work on porting Linux on the CnMBook Silver version that has the processor and would *love* to have access to the specs.

Thanks!

Nice! Very Happy I am working on porting linux to my netbook. I can get the ARM9 partly working, but the extra stuff on the SoC is blackbox to me. Good to know its online. I was about to request specs from Anyka. For some reason I can't look at it from your forum link, but if its here its elsewhere online. Something about "Knights"? What does this mean?

Hi 16bithovercar,

I'm interested in helping with the port too. Can you tell me at what stage you are (anything working in haret?).

Might be a good idea to organise some sort of development area and some source code repository to put together all the efforts?

Best regards,
nashpa

Hi Nashpa,
I was working on a friend's generic netbook and through an ARM9 emulator, but I am back at the University now. I just picked up my new netbook from UPS earlier today. I don't want to do anything to it until I make a proper backup ROM dump. For some reason though there is no F1 option on this one... so it might take me a while to figure it out. (Plus school starts next week) I remember reading somewhere there is a direct data cable connection I can do with the AK7802 somewhere. Maybe something to JTAG, I don't remember.
On my friend's machine we were using HaRET to load a cross-compiled linux kernel into memory. That seemed to work fine. The problem was calling specific board parts. I was also using it to look at the specs internally, since I don't have a AK7802 datasheet.
As far as collaborating, sure - that's what OSS is about. If we make any good patches, we can send them up the 2.X tree I just need to figure out how to make a backup on this machine first.

Cheers

Hi 16bithovercar,

I have downloaded the leaked BSP for WinCE that was leaked in this forum and elsewhere. I don't know how "kosher" is to use that for development, but ATM I don't care, I'm more interested in having the netbook booting Linux.

As I don't have access to the datasheet (yet, I've made a request for it to Anyka and I've also asked the Admin here to give me access to it) I've used the BSP code to figure out some of the internals of the CPU. I am putting those in a patch for HaRET to be able to watch gpios and other things.

What version of HaRET were you using and what did you do to get a successful boot of the Linux kernel?

As for the direct cable connection, in that leaked BSP there is a schematics PDF file that matches pretty close my Netbook (CnMBook 7 Silver Edition) and I have found the connector on Digikey (OR753CT-ND). I've ordered a pair of them and a flex cable but then I would need to build a breakout board to get the pins to a standard JTAG connector. Hope I won't need that for now though.

We could setup a repository on GitHub (for example) to put the kernel patches once we have something running.

Cheers

Hi Naspha,

Do you remember the thread or link you used to download the BSP? I recently purchased a 7" mini-netbook (V-NET VL-760-R-4GB-BLK with AKARM, ARM926-AKCHIP) that's very similar, if not identical, to the CnmBook 7. I've been trying to find the binaries to flash it or upgrade to WinCE 6.0 (since the SD boot method does not work) or create on from a working BSP. Supposedly it's already out there but it's almost impossible getting anywhere/anything unless you're a knight. Sad

Any help or insight would greatly help.

Thanks in advance.

There are plenty of places on the net that you can download it from. Search for zt-n760_with_ANKY.rar.

The whole thing about knights area is stupid. If this forum was setup to foster collaboration, why do you need an area where only people with lots of contributions can access (and that only after Admin bothers to grant you the rights)?

I don't know the person behind Admin, but he does not seem to be a very nice person when it comes to online collaboration.

Oh, one more thing: the BSP file that you download doesn't seem complete. I know that a guy here (radu_moisan) has managed to compile it, but then he went silent.

Cheers.

Thanks nashpa! I'll give it a try.

I agree with the whole knights thing. It's very discouraging and frustrating trying to get information when the whole purpose of such a forum/community should be to share useful information and resources.

I tried reaching out to radu_moisan a few weeks back after reading his posts which seemed to indicate he was making some progress. But I never heard back and he never posted his final results.

Thanks again for your help!

Nashpa,

I've been jumping through lots of hoops trying to find a working link to the zt-n760_with_ANKY.rar file. Some are saying file not found or access denied. Do you know a valid working link?

As I'm not sure about the legality of distributing the code, I can only PM you.
