I recently bought an Allfine PC703 netbook as a present for my daughter. All she wants from any computer is Facebook, Youtube and a little bit of Word for homework.

I thought that this would all be possible, but sadly, Youtube access is slow and limited, Facebook runs incredibly slowly and Word can't keep up with even her one-fingered typing.

No problem, I thought - I'll run an old XP box tucked away in a cupboard, which I know will run all of those things absloutely fine, then she can just remote desktop to it over the wireless network.

The problem is, I can't find a version of remote desktop, or VNC, or anything at all, that will run on the Allfine. Google brings up loads of suggestions and discussion, but nothing I can actually download. Apparently it's built into Win CE 5.0 Pro, but not the 5.0 Core that runs on this box. :-(

Has anybody succeeded in getting one of these netbooks to connect to XP over a network? (I don't mind paying for the software, which shows how desperate I am!).

Thanks all, over to you..

@Sousbois

You can connect to XP via Telnet or over Network with shared Directories or Disks.

Look here, you found a lot of information!

Thanks, Juergen - I will look into Telnet and shared directories. Do you know it is possible to connect using Remote Desktop (or VNC), so that you can drive software running on the XP box?

Both are possible!

I found RDP in one Passatempo's thread: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The working file is in the archive available through the link passatempo gave me.

I found VNC client using Google, but if you need it, I can put it up somewhere (it is not very big Smile )
